Kings Hezekiah & Josiah

Who was Hezekiah?  (2 Chronicles 29:34-35)

King Ahaz was the ruler of Judah, the Southern Kingdom of Israel.  Ahaz set up places to worship idols, and the people often forgot about God.  When King Ahaz died, his son, Hezekiah became the new leader of Judah.  King Hezekiah was not like his father, he did what was right.  He led the people back into the worship of God, he trusted and obeyed God’s commands.

Who was Josiah? (2 Chronicles 7:14)

King Josiah was Hezekiah’s great grandson.  While his father and grandfather were evil kings, Josiah was not.  Josiah became the King of Judah when he was 8 years old, and started to follow God when he was a teenager.  Josiah decided to repair the Lord’s Temple, and there the High Priest had found the book of the law.

When Josiah heard the words of the law, he learned that his ancestors had not obeyed God.  So, he decided to get rid of the idols and their places of worship that had been built.  King Josiah promised to follow God and obey Him like the law instructed.  As long as Josiah was king, the people of Judah followed God and obeyed him.
